BREAKING: Water main breaks, cafeteria closes
November 21, 2013 - 8:37am

Last updated: Monday, Nov. 25 3:53 p.m.

The water is back on in all affected buildings as of 3:50 p.m. on Monday, Nov 25. Below is the original breaking story. Cafe and espresso stand will open tomorrow, Tuesday, at 7 a.m.

A water main has likely broken between Parks and Gray Wolf. The cafe and espresso stand have closed and there is no water in those buildings, Rainier or Jackson. The college does not know if the water will be fixed this week, and are "working on contingency plans" said John Olson in an email to campus. Events are encouraged to move to different buildings.

A utility company is on the way to locate the problem before any digging occurs, said Patrick Sisneros, VP of college services. They should arrive this afternoon. The best case scenario is that everything will be back in order by Monday, Sisneros said. Portable restrooms are available in front of Gray Wolf and Rainier.

Students are feeling the effects of the broken main as it has disrupted some of their morning schedules. Student Sierra Card missed breakfast and waited around for the cafeteria to open until security told her it was closed.

Sisneros said that main breaks are “unusual” and that the last one occurred before Gray Wolf was built. This particular main is part of Gray Wolf and dates back to 2008 or 2009.

Until the cafeteria is opened again, food can be bought at the bookstores in Parks, the second floor of Whitehorse and the first floor of Liberty, coffee can be bought on the first floor of Whitehorse.

This story is in progress, we will update the story as we learn more.
